The York Revolution is a green team, not in the sense that the players are inexperienced though. What I mean is that they don’t seem to have the kind of following that York has to offer. It surprised me that the few times I went the stadium was far from sold out. That’s not to say that going to a ballgame isn’t a great summer activity. Whether it is a date, day out with friends and family, or a company outing, the Revolution is a great place to have a good time, not to mention it is relatively cheap compared to many other summer activities.
The team is still establishing itself in town and sometimes it takes time to build a loyal fan base. Over time I think the team will become a staple of York, but such a transition can take years if not decades. The team has employed its share of gimmicks in an effort to increase attendance. Only in baseball is such shameless promotion appropriate, and in fact it just adds to the jolly atmosphere. Then there is always our muppetesque mascot Downtown and he does a good job of keeping morale high. I admit I’m not sure where his species descends from he’s a born hype man.
Though baseball is the main attraction, there are other things to do in the park. They have an amusement park for kids if they need to run around a bit during the seventh inning stretch. There is also a large selection of food, all of which is delicious and perfectly in keeping with the kind of classic cuisine one can only get at a ballpark. The prices aren’t too high either, certainly nothing compared to what one would pay at a MLB game.
The team is on the up and up. Over time I’m sure their popularity will continue to grow. One way to make this happen is to go to the games. I would strongly recommend it. Get a hat too; you’ll want to be ready for the Revolution.
